Sacramento authorities are investigating a gunfire incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time authorities were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
How It Started

A law enforcement helicopter searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, deputies found that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without official sanction.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding those gathered to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Deputies immediately began identifying shooting victims.

The four individuals — including a female and three males ranging in age through their in their mid to late twenties — were taken to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Emergency physicians noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one victim's wounds were minor. Sacramento Metro Fire provided support and helped triage the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the Howe Park Sacramento gunfire incident appears to have been concentrated near Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives discovered additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were also found in the iron perimeter fence near the nearby Home Depot. This ballistic evidence confirmed that a second shooter had been firing southward from Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly well into the night.
